Located within the Sintra Cascais natural park, surrounded by a forest with a lacework of paths, palaces, and an ancient monastery. The Mountains of the Moon – Lunae Mons – was the name for Sintra in the ancient world. It was the legendary retreat of Diana the Huntress, known to the Romans as Cynthia, and eventually becoming Çintra.
The mansion is made of two adjacent buildings, the Palacette and the Villa, which can be combined or rented separately. The Villa has 7 double en-suite bedrooms and a room with bunk beds for 4 children, and the Palacette has 7 en-suite bedrooms, including a 2 bedroom annex which can be closed off and annexed to the Villa, turning the latter into a 10 bedroom house.
Both offer marvelous view of the Sintra-Cascais park, in a privileged location – the same forested road as Sintra’s Regaleira and Monserrate palaces, both definitely worth a visit.
Apart from Sintra town being one of Portugal’s foremost tourist attractions, with it’s four famous palaces and Moorish wall, as well as magical forest paths prone to foggy mornings with castle views popping shrouded in mist, the house is also a 15-20 minutes drive from excellent beaches – the most beautiful in Portugal (without traveling 3 hours south to the Algarve), which easily makes them some of the most beautiful in Europe.
The center of Lisbon is a 35 minutes drive – discounting traffic (ask us where to park to escape the worst of it), or 40 minutes by tram.
Not to spoil a surprise, we can still say the mansion was previously owned by some prominent figures in Portugal’s history, and more than one famous foreigner – including an author you are likely to have read.
Both parts of the mansion have fantastic kitchens, fully equipped and ready to be used. Catering services are also available, from breakfasts, to dinners, and full board.
