Aldea de Jaime

On the north side of the Güeña Valley, and facing south – towards the magnificent Picos de Europa – Jaime’s Casa de Aldea was our introduction to Asturias and the Picos over 20 years ago.

About Aldea de Jaime

This Asturian Casa de Aldea was originally a simple country inn with 6 rooms, where we would send clients, regardless of budget, and would often hear it is the best in the world.

This high esteem owes a lot to unparalleled views, with the privileged south facing location, but equally to the owner’s character, his “cariño” to the house, to his guests and to Asturias – which manifests in the details of every room, the knobs, switches, tapestries and furnishings, all contribute to a timeless feeling of an old world inn. But this house isn’t an image of anything else, a nostalgia for the past, or the setting for a period film – it is an existence in and of itself.

Still with 6 rooms, a cozy fireplace, a terrace to watch mists roll in the valley below, cows crazing and bells chiming, the Aldea is ideally located a short drive from Cangas de Onis – the main town in the valley, the Cabrales villages with their famous limestone caves aged cheese, the most famous Covadonga lakes and many more scenic spots and hikes.

The Picos de Europa – named after the first shapes of land visible from ships returning from the Americas – is a place for an extended stay. Take your time to delve into the local cuisine, the cider, countless hikes, cultural and historical visits, caves, and architecture, and start planning your return sometime between day 1 and day 2.
